Mandinga Arts are recruiting for a Project and Administrative Assistant Intern to join our small and busy team in South West London.

Mandinga Arts researches, designs, creates and delivers extraordinary and innovative outdoor performance costumes, floats and processions, engaging communities in collaboration with skilled professional artists, drawing on European, Latin American and African traditions, and continuously reinventing.

The successful candidate will work as part of our core staff team under the supervision of the Company Project Manager / Administrator to provide administrative support to all aspects of Mandinga’s work. The candidate will have the chance to experience a variety of tasks and responsibilities, contributing to the coordination of our projects and the running of the company as well as assisting with preparations for Mandinga’s participation in this season, such as being involved with Interwoven, two year European funded project and Newcastle Winter Carnival in December 2010.

Skills/Experience Required:
• Strong organisational skills
• Strong communication skills, written and oral
• A good level of computer literacy, specifically knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word and Excel
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Experience of working in an office environment
• A flexibility and willingness to learn
• A willingness to work (occasionally) outside the normal working hours and participate in Mandinga Arts events
• An interest in Carnival Arts and public arts events

Details:
2 - 3 days per week voluntary placement over a period of 3 months.
The placement will commence from Thursday 21st October 2010.
A pre-paid oyster travel card will be provided to cover the cost of travel to and from work.

Production Internship - The Public Catalogue Foundation - posted 06.9.2010

The Public Catalogue Foundation (PCF) seeks interns to work in the production department of its head office located in Covent Garden, London. Two interns will be employed for a three month period on a full-time basis.The PCF has openings from mid-October (start date negotiable).

The PCF, a registered charity, has been set up specifically to record the nation’s complete collection of oil paintings in public ownership and to make this accessible to the public through a series of affordable catalogues and free internet access using the Your Paintings website. The PCF is going through an exciting new phase as the Your Paintings project approaches its completion date. In partnership with the BBC, The PCF aims to put all 200,000 oil paintings in public ownership online, thereby achieving a significant increase in public access to these paintings. The Your Paintings website is scheduled to launch in spring 2011. Funding permitting, The PCF aims to complete the digitization programmed by the time of the London Olympics.

The production interns will work with all the members of The PCF’s small production team on a range of activities. A key role to be undertaken will be to help update our database in time for our online project. Interns will be responsible for communicating with art collections, working with images and administrative tasks relating to the everyday running of a busy publications department. There will also be a degree of proofreading of painting data and ensuring adherence to house style. The PCF will endeavour to ensure the interns have the opportunity to experience a range of interesting activities including, where possible, joining PCF coordinators in the field, visiting the printer and attending catalogue launch parties.

The internship is intended to benefit both The PCF and the intern, helping to develop a practical grounding in arts publishing and providing experience of working in the arts and heritage sector. Complimentary catalogues, networking opportunities and other benefits, including the experience of working in Central London, have attracted previous interns to The PCF. In addition to the experience gained during the internship period, The PCF is willing to act as a future referee and will pay up to £150 per month towards travel expenses during the internship.

Interns must hold a degree, be competent in software such as MS Word and Excel (knowledge of Photoshop is an advantage), and show a desire to continue or start out in the art publishing sector. Applicants should also have good English skills in order to proofread our painting database to a professional level. An interest in art is essential as well as an excellent attention to detail and a personable telephone manner.

Applicants must be able to persuade The PCF that this internship will be a valuable experience and important in creating relevant career opportunities, and must be prepared to commit to this role for a three month period.

Interns will be asked to sign a short contract to include working hours and the agreed dates of the internship period. Interns will be recompensed for travel expenses up to the value of £150 per month. Interns will be able to take of a maximum of 5 days holiday over the period in addition to English bank holidays.

moves is celebrating its 7th edition in 2011 presenting an eclectic and challenging programme of artists and works exploring movement on screen. The festival team is looking for new board members to support the development of the organisation to meet its objectives.

Based in the North West of England, moves is the largest exhibition platform in the UK for experimental short film and innovative screen based artworks with a unique element: rhythm.

Embedded in the heart of Liverpool’s cultural agenda, moves partners include leading arts organisations such as the Bluecoat, FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology), the Contemporary Urban Centre (CUC) and LJMU’s Art and Design Academy or the BBC Big Screens across the UK.

moves screens nationally and internationally at renowned events, festivals and venues such as Videodanza BA (Argentina), AFTRS (Australian Film, Television and Radio School), MUSEEK (Russia), 700IS Experimental Film and Video Festival (Iceland), FRAME Research (Portugal) or MODEM (Museum of Modern Art, Hungary) among others.

The festival is seeking a candidate with industry experience in the fields of art, film, screen dance, and/or dance; a practitioner or facilitator. Of interest are also candidates with experience in commercial/non-commercial business management and financial knowledge at executive level underlined by a strong interest to support the arts. The person should be well established in networks within their field of expertise, have significant contacts within the above mentioned industries and, ideally, the higher education sector; familiarity with the alternative and local/regional arts/film scene is preferable. A character passionate about movement-on-screen highly motivated to advise, accompany and support moves development.

The non-executive board members play a key role in developing and monitoring the organisation's direction, as well as the quality of the programme.

The Board has responsibility for the continuity of the organisation and its activities, monitoring the budget, the implementation of the programme and business strategy as well as appointing the Artistic Director and members of the Board of Directors. The Board meets four times a year with the senior staff of the organisation in Liverpool.

You will work closely with Fuel’s Production Manager to support the technical and logistical requirements of a wide range of artistic projects. This position is ideal for people interested in how an idea for a piece of theatre work turns into a practical reality. This is a part-time, fixed term voluntary position working three days a week – one day will be Friday and the others will be negotiated with the production manager.

Fuel Interns support the producing work of the Fuel Producers, General Manager, Production Manager and Project Manager, and play a key role in the organisation.

Green Shoes Arts is a non-profit arts organisation, based in Dagenham and working across East London. We are looking for an individual to assist us in the administration of the day to day office work and in the planning and delivery of our forthcoming projects.

Ideally, you should have a degree in the field of arts or working towards one, and a strong interest in education and community work. You will need good organisational and communication skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office. You will be able to work closely with our small creative team, and develop a strong understanding of developing creative projects in communities and school settings.

The intern will be based in our office in Dagenham – nearest underground station is Dagenham Heathway - for one or two days a week for a period of either 6 or 9 months.
